A global shipping company which is launching a brand-new service between Malta and Sicily are looking for an Able Seaman (AB) to join their new venture in Malta. You will be sailing aboard a state-of-the-art, high-speed catamaran between the two islands. You will report to the Mate & Mater and be part of the team responsible for supporting the safe operation of the vessel in a fashion that exceeds the highest standards within the passenger vessel industry. The ideal candidate will hold Unlimited AB and STCW 95 certification, ideally having previously sailed on a high-speed vessel. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Memorize and conduct assignments on the Watch Quarter Station Bill.
  • Know location of all safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, fire and bilge pumps, fire hoses, lifejacket lockers, emergency lighting, first aid supplies and rescue equipment
  • Fully aware of proper lifejacket donning methods and have the ability to instruct other of the same
  • Participate in the operation of the vessel within the legal requirements of the Transport Malta and other pertinent regulatory agencies under supervision of the mate
  • Monitor safety issues and report hazards to the mate for correction
  • Participate in safety, seamanship and other training as required
  • Join in drills as directed by the mate
  • Participate in meetings as requested
  • Ensure that safety equipment is provided and properly used for all tasks involving physical hazards
  • Assist, under direction of the Mate, with safe mooring, docking of the vessel in a variety of weather and water stage conditions
  • Assist, under the direction of the mate, the loading and unloading of vehicles and passengers
  • Assist with routine maintenance, painting and clean up as instructed by the mate
  • Stay aware of guest service and safety issues and provide regular and dependable feedback to the master by way of the mate
CANDIDATE PROFILE
  • Aware of the importance of the permit to operate and how operation of the vessel is governed by the IMO-HSC and other documents and regulations
  • Wear proper uniform and be well groomed at all times
  • Wear a work vest when participating in mooring of the vessel or undertaking other exposed duties
  • Able to stand and walk during most if not the entire shift. Job will require routine bending, stretching, crawling, climbing, kneeling and heavy lifting of objects, which weigh over 50 lbs
  • Good hearing and vision is required
  • Must be capable of working on vessel in all types of weather conditions during day and night hours
  • Ability to make independent decisions, yet follow orders in an emergency situation
  • Must comply with the company policies and procedures
  • STCW 95 certificate
  • Certificate in crowd control 
  • High-speed passenger vessel experience preferred
  • Water-jet experience preferred
  • Successful completion of in-house IMO-HSC Type Rating program
