GRS Recruitment is working with a well-established engineering and mechanical services company in Limassol that is seeking to recruit an Assistant Technician to join their growing technical team. This is an excellent opportunity for a junior or entry-level candidate looking to develop hands-on mechanical and engineering experience within a professional environment supporting marine, mining, power generation, and industrial applications. The role offers structured on-the-job training and development, including mentoring from Senior Technicians and exposure to MTU engines, with the possibility of further technical training at an MTU training centre. The successful candidate will support Service and Senior Technicians in the maintenance, servicing, troubleshooting, and repair of medium and high-speed engines and related mechanical equipment. The role is based in Limassol and is split approximately 50% workshop-based and 50% vessel-based work, depending on operational requirements. Work is carried out both in the workshop and on vessels, with assignments scheduled according to customer requests. The role does not include an on-call or emergency response requirement outside standard working hours.
 
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist Service and Senior Technicians with servicing, maintenance, and repair works on MTU engines and mechanical systems.
  • Support hands-on mechanical works under supervision across workshop and vessel environments.
  • Prepare tools, equipment, and work areas prior to maintenance activities.
  • Assist with inspections of machinery and support basic troubleshooting activities.
  • Support assembly and disassembly of mechanical components and equipment.
  • Carry out routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning, filter changes, hose replacement, and lubrication.
  • Assist with safe handling and storage of oils, lubricants, fuels, and chemicals.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of workshop and worksite areas.
  • Assist in recording job-related data including photos, readings, and checklists.
  • Report faults, risks, or damages to the Senior Technician or Supervisor.
  • Follow company procedures and all Health & Safety requirements at all times.
  • Support additional workshop or site duties as required.
  • This position reports directly to a Senior Technician and works closely as part of the wider technical team.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
  • Technical school, MCAST, or equivalent mechanical/engineering-related education.
  • Apprenticeship-level candidates welcome (0–1 year experience also considered).
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems, engines, and hand tools.
  • Willingness to learn diagnostics, servicing, and repair techniques.
  • Open to candidates coming directly from technical school with limited practical experience.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Reliable, responsible, and hands-on approach.
  • Detail-oriented with an analytical mindset and commitment to quality and accuracy.
  • Ability to take ownership of tasks and contribute positively to the team environment.
  • Physically fit and comfortable working in technical environments.
  • Ability to commute to work in Limassol is essential.
  • Basic technical English language skills.
