A well-established international shipping organisation is seeking a skilled Crewing Manager to oversee the recruitment, deployment, and management of crew across its fleet. This is a key operational role, combining strategic planning with hands-on management to ensure crew readiness, compliance, and performance. The successful candidate will have extensive maritime crewing experience, strong leadership skills, and a proven ability to manage complex schedules and operational requirements.
 
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Coordinate recruitment, selection, and deployment of crew for all vessels in the fleet, ensuring compliance with international standards and internal policies.
  • Plan, manage, and adjust crew rotation schedules based on operational needs, crew availability, and company procedures.
  • Ensure all crew certifications, visas, medicals, and training are current and compliant with flag state regulations and international standards (e.g., STCW, MLC, ISM).
  • Monitor crew performance, resolve personnel issues, and provide regular feedback through appraisals.
  • Collaborate with finance to manage the crewing budget, including salaries, travel, and related costs.
  • Maintain relationships with external manning agencies, medical centres, and training institutes to ensure quality and reliability of crew supply.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate crewing risks, including staff shortages, non-compliance, or operational disruptions.
  • Mentor and support junior crewing team members, sharing knowledge to improve overall team performance.
  • Ensure all crew members understand and adhere to company health and safety policies.
  • Take a lead role in managing emergencies or contingencies involving crew members, such as medical incidents or evacuations.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
  • Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Human Resources, or related field (or equivalent industry experience).
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in crewing roles within the offshore or shipping industries, including at least 3 years in a senior or managerial position.
  • Strong knowledge of international crewing regulations, including STCW, MLC, ISM, and flag state requirements.
  • Proficiency in crewing management software and MS Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
