A leading international insurance company, one of the largest on a European level, are working with GRS to recruit a Deputy Head of Compliance, for their Nicosia operation. The successful candidate will have a minimum 5 years of relevant compliance experience. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Be the subject matter expert to Senior Management on issues related to financial crime regulations, compliance, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Help management make the best business decisions, by being a business partner and taking a commercial and risk-based approach to compliance, but also ensuring the business is compliant with regulations and our risk appetite.
  • Where possible, anticipate emerging regulatory expectations and priorities, including through external networking.
  • Collaborate with the Head of compliance (also referred to as Compliance Officer for regulatory purposes), to deliver the annual compliance plan.
  • Collaborate with the Compliance Officer to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the regulatory framework applied by the Group, including the provisions of the Prevention and Suppression of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Law of 2007 to 2021 (188(I)/2007) as amended from time to time and the respective instructions of the Superintendent of Insurance.
  • Assist in the review and update of all compliance related policies and procedures and ensures they remain compliant with local regulation and Group policies. Guide the competent departments of the Group for their implementation.
  • Analyze compliance processes to identify the need for documentation around procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Compliance Officer to design and roll out a compliance monitoring plan and framework, to ensure that all key risk areas (AML, Sanctions, Anti bribery and corruption, conflicts of interest etc.) are subject to regular reviews by the compliance team. Check on adherence to the company policies and procedures.
  • Conduct periodic reviews as to the effectiveness of documented procedures.
  • Document board level reports summarizing review findings.
  •  Assist in the regulatory and internal reporting requirements to ensure all deadlines are met in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with vendors, agents, and internal teams with respect to the implementation, update and roll out of compliance training across the Group.
  • Proactively communicate requirements / priorities and project status to key stakeholders.
  • Prepares notes, memos, and reports in relation to the regulatory framework applied by the Group, procedural improvements in it and any relevant changes in the legislation and informs the Senior Management and the Board of Directors.
  • Maintain and update files in relation to the regulatory framework.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.
  • Supports and overseas the business development of new products, services, geographical expansion.
 
CANDIDATE PROFILE
  • University diploma or degree or equivalent.
  • At least five 5 years’ experience related to the duties of the position, acquired after obtaining the qualifications referred to in point above.
  • Strong preference for candidates who have worked as in-house compliance managers in financial services companies.
  • Subject matter expertise on financial crime/ AML / CTF.  We are not looking for someone who has experience only in screening. We are a looking for an expert who is familiar with the requirements and has assisted management in making the best business decisions. Knowledge of EU and local legislation and best practice, and Experience including the following:
 - Provision of AML / CTF consulting services
- Experience in AML / CTF compliance department of a liable entity under the Prevention and Suppression of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Law of 2007 to 2021 (188(I)/2007)
  • Excellent knowledge and use of Greek and English, both in verbal and written communication.
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills.
  • An AML/ financial crime expert. You will have strong experience of designing and implementing financial crime frameworks; guiding the business to make the best commercial decisions, whilst always remaining compliant with the applicable regulations, internal policies and internal risk appetite.
  • Someone who can contribute to the wider compliance team scope.
  • Highly organized and structured, able to lead projects from start to finish within timelines.
