A marine shipping company, launching a brand-new, high-speed service between Malta and Sicily is looking for an Electronics Officer (ETO) to join their new venture. The role will be based in Sicily and you will be responsible for monitoring all electronic and electrical equipment onboard to maximize the operational safety and efficiency of the vessel under the Chief Engineer’s overview. The ideal candidate will have completed an approved education and training program meeting the standards of competence specified in section A-III/6 of the STCW Code. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintenance and working of electrical equipment on board
  • Working of electrical parts like engine room, radio communications, electronic navigation, compass, weather fax, auto pilot, Radar, aerial system, telephone and satellite communications
  • Basic electric requirements such as refrigeration, bridge systems and control rooms
  • Maintenance of emergency systems including switches, fire alarms and detectors
  • Vessel’s electrical components such as navigational lights, battery backups and electrically operated propelling machinery
  • Assist Chief Officer in handling routine works related to electrical handling
  • Coordinate work with on shore technicians
  • During emergencies you should be equipped to handle emergency situations and ensure all equipment needed is always ready for use
CANDIDATE PROFILE
  • Experience as an Electro-Technical Officer of merchant marine or naval vessels sufficient to provide a good understanding of the electrical, electronic and control systems, plant and equipment.
  • A Certificate of Competency as STCW III/6 Electro-Technical Officer.
  • A current ENG 1 Medical Certificate
  • Completed training to comply with relevant sections of STCW Reg.V/2.
  • Experience of electrical power supply and distribution systems.
  • Experience of engine control room and machinery space control and alarm systems, including instrumentation and fault/data logging systems.
  • A working understanding of risk assessment procedures, safe systems of work, and planned maintenance requirements.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluent in English.
