A global shipping operator in the Dry Bulk sector and provider of sea transportation services is looking for an experienced Environmental and Energy Superintendent in Athens. You will liaise with Class, Authorities and third parties ensuring that all vessels conform to all relevant International, Statutory, Classification, Marine Industry and Company requirements so that environmental certification and approvals are maintained. Additionally, you will be a Member of the Emergency Response Team with responsibilities for environmental issues. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Implement, maintain and improve the Company SMS, ensuring that all vessels are operated in accordance with Company policy and procedures in respect of environmental issues.
  • Monitor and keep abreast of industry and/or technological developments and/or introduction of new regulations/amendments to the existing ones, develop ideas and projects that contribute to improvement of the performance and to the overall efficiency of the vessels.
  • Ensure that all Company vessels remain fully certified in respect of SOPEP, VGP, ISO 14000 and ISO 50000.
  • Verify the effectiveness and degree of implementation of the environmental management system and report the status regularly to the MSQE Manager.
  • Monitor the environmental aspects of the operation of the Company vessels and ensure that adequate resources and shore-based support are applied as required.
  • Establish environmental programs, review measurable elements and set realistic targets in order to reduce the environmental impacts of the operation of the Company vessels.
  • Prepare new and update existing Shipboard Oil Pollution Emergency Plans, Federal and State Response Plans and their related matters.
  • Liaise with Class and Authorities to ensure that recommendations made are effectively and promptly addressed in order that environmental certification is maintained.
  • Briefing and de-briefing senior officers and superintendent engineers in environmental issues.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
  • Relevant University Degree.
  • Working knowledge of Environmental aspect, e.g. ISO 1400, ISO 5000, MARPOL, etc.
  • Certified ISM/ISO Lead Auditor.
  • Previous experience in a similar position for at least 3 years.
  • Working knowledge of English language & Computer literacy.
