On behalf of our client, a financial services organisation, GRS are recruiting a Junior Associate – Court Litigation who will report to the Legal Manager. The selected candidate will be driven, ambitious and enjoy working in a challenging, fast-paced environment. This role calls for someone who would be responsible for assisting in, initiating or continuing any court-related procedures which may become necessary or are otherwise required within the context of the enforcement process of the company. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To liaise with the company’s external lawyers in relation to any such court-related procedures

To carry out the drafting, preparation and filing of any judicial acts and related notes and documents as may become necessary within the context of any such court related proceedings

To prepare and help in preparing court files as needed
-
To liaise with other units and sections within the company and its Agents to collect data, documentation and information necessary for the purposes of court related proceedings
-
To attend on behalf of and representing the company in any court sittings
-
To assist any FIAU officer, employee or agent who may have to attend for whatever purpose any court sittings
-
Work closely with other enforcement officers and report directly to the enforcement management as necessary. This in assisting with enforcement related tasks such as: reviewing, assessing and evaluating inspection reports, and representations for presentation of cases before the compliance monitoring committee and in preparing and issuing administrative measures letters in line with the compliance monitoring committee’s decision and in preparing and issuing publication notices

To assist and lead as necessary in periodic exercises carried out by the Enforcement Section

To assist and contribute to the drawing up and maintenance of guidance and other papers that are issued by the company

To liaise and co-operate with supervisory authorities locally and abroad in joint enforcement and follow up actions as necessary

To organise and deliver, alone or jointly with other organizations, AML training and public awareness

To assist the Head, Deputy Head, Senior Manager and/or Manager in any ad-hoc projects/assignments which may arise during the year

To co-ordinate and attend internal and external meetings as required

To represent the department in proceedings, including as witness, before any court, tribunal or other adjudicating body

To report to and update the Director, Deputy Director, Head, Deputy Head, Senior Manager and Manager about any new or ongoing court proceedings or judgments involving the company

Carry out any other duties that may be assigned by the Director, Deputy Director, Head, Deputy Head, Senior Manager and Manager
CANDIDATE PROFILE

LL.B. (Hons) / LL.D. / M.Adv. Degree or an equivalent academic qualification

Warrant or registration to practice as an advocate in Malta or in the process of obtaining same

Applicants should have practiced in court or have relevant experience for a minimum of 2 years
-
Good understanding of the laws that govern the prevention of money laundering and funding of terrorism in Malta and the international standards and EU legislation in the area
-
Sound knowledge of the relevant EU Directives and related local legislation that govern the financial, gaming and other regulated sectors

Familiarity with the operations of the above-mentioned sectors

Experience in applying anti-money laundering and counter-funding of terrorism legislation would be considered as an asset
-
Outstanding written and verbal communications skills in Maltese and English

Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and office automation tools
