A global shipping operator in the Dry Bulk sector and provider of sea transportation services is looking for an experienced Marine Superintendent to launch a brand-new branch in Athens. You will manage a fleet of 4 to 7 bulk vessels, depending on experience. The candidate should be an ex-Master of Bulk Carrier with proven experience in Dry Bulk Carrier Management/Owner Company. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Daily monitoring of vessel movements and ships performance (speed/consumption, weather advisor and support underperformance claims)
  • Guide and monitor Masters in close cooperation with the Technical, Q&S and other departments to manage assigned vessels as per Company’s policy and safety management system
  • Supervise operations and monitor vessel condition and ship’s staff compliance with management policies, international, state or local Maritime regulations.
  • Responsible of Cargo related (Stowage plan check/Cargo hold readiness/cleaning procedures)  
  • Responsible for all technical and operational related issues, including correspondence.
  • Ensure all procedures are adhered to and comply with International safety management (ISM), classification society rules, and Maritime insurance.
  • Liaise directly with the vessel owner, respond to any charter or technical and operational questions.
  • Revise, agree and monitor budgets.
  • Work closely with Engine & Operations Superintendents and provide technical advice to the HSQE and Operations Departments.
  • Review SIRE or other inspection observations and deficiencies and work with the vessel and Operations Department to track them through to close out.
  • Supervision of operations, including the monitoring of the vessel’s condition and ship’s staff compliance with management policies and safety.
  • Briefing and debriefing and appraisal of Masters, Chief Engineers and other senior officers on board assigned vessel.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
  • Hold a related degree or internationally recognised shipping qualification (Master Mariner preferred).
  • Has experience on board Bulk Vessels/Cape size or Panamax as Master / additional academic background would be appreciated accordingly.
  • Proven office experience within an owner or managing company
  • Possess an understanding of commercial areas lying with vessels’ maintenance, performances, cargo matters (such as but no limited to cargo requirement and associated risk, holds cleaning and management, stowage plans etc)
  • Sailed at sea as a Master on bulk carriers.
  • Able to handle difficult and sometimes stressful situations, along with the ability to negotiate and make both executive and technical decisions.
  • Clear communicator, both verbally and written.
  • Confident to carry out risk assessments and accident investigations and prepare associated reports concisely.
  • Previous people management skills, including staff reviews and monitoring of KPI’s is required.
  • There are opportunities to travel the world in this role so you should be willing to travel if required
