Our client, a leading gaming company based in Malta, is seeking a talented and dedicated Senior Executive Data Engineer to join their innovative team. As a Senior Data Engineer you will play a vital role on the continues implementation of a Data Strategy whilst collaborating as part of a cross-functional agile team to create and enhance data ingestion pipelines, address big data challenges and build business-critical products using a variety of cutting-edge tools. You will take a leading role in the continued implementation of data technologies adopted, the architecture, and the development of the data pipelines across the ecosystem. You will also be responsible for exposing data from a central location with the aim of making it easy for integration, BI reports, analytics, and other data consumers to build data-driven solutions, features and insights.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Own the data technology stack, its design, development and operation throughout.
  • Develop a sound data architectural model, covering infrastructure, application, data and integration layers, to support the growth strategy of the business.
  • Implement modern data architectures, covering data extraction from various sources (including using APIs), transformation, storage, analytics, and reporting.
  • Do regular assessments to maintain the quality and keep the technology up to date across industry standards.
  • Develop automated data pipelines required from the broad operational systems into the data warehouse
  • Maintain data-related documentation and proactively provide knowledge sharing sessions with fellow colleagues, possibly including training sessions.
  • Have a constant review of data pipelines to maintain the highest level of data quality.
  • Provide support in relation to data-related queries and investigate any data quality issues which might be raised from time to time.
  • Follow and apply best practices while building the data streaming framework.
  • Maintain transparent communication within the team including the Data Scientist, Data Stewards and Data Analysts, and other departments within the organisation.
  • Participate in brainstorming meetings to discuss existing issues and new ideas.
  • Work on Proof of Concept for selected technologies that are yet to be adopted.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
  • In possession of a Degree (MQF Level 6 or equivalent) in Information Technology. Candidates with Diploma Level (MQF Level 5 or equivalent) will be considered if in possession of at least 3 years related experience;
  • Extensive experience in using cloud-based data warehouse, ETL, integration, visualisation tools and data modelling.
  • Familiarity with Data Architecture best practices.
  • Comfortable working within an agile delivery framework.
  • A Qualification/Certification with a focus on data engineering would be an asset.
  • Thorough knowledge in Python.
  • Experience with SQL, SSIS, Power BI, Azure technologies (MS Fabric, Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, Data Lake, Databrick) and the implementation of new data platforms
  • Stream data processing experience, preferably using Spark.
  • Experience with Data Governance and Data Quality tools, preferably MS Purview. 
  • Experience with ELK Stack or similar technologies.
  • Familiarity with Power Platform and/or other tools related to robotic process automation (RPA) will be considered an asset.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment whilst interacting with a variety of different disciplines.
  • Proven ability to prioritise and deal with problems systematically and provide clear communications regarding the issues, resolution times and solutions.
