A global shipping operator in the Dry Bulk sector and provider of sea transportation services is looking for a Senior Inspection and Repair Manager to launch a brand-new branch in Athens. You will take over a fleet of 24 vessels and report directly to the Senior Management. Ideally you will have a degree in Engineering or Naval Architecture and have experience onboard bulk carriers as Chief Engineer with proven experience within an office of an Owner or Managing company. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Review problems, major defects and breakdowns reported to the office and follow up until corrective action is verified.
  • Prepare in co-operation with the General and Technical Managers annual technical budgets and specifications of all major repairs and dry-dockings and discuss the expenditure and deviations from schedules, budgets or capital expenditures projects.
  • Coordinate, monitor, arrange and attend (if deemed necessary) repairs and dry dockings, ensuring that these are completed within the agreed period and cost margins.
  • Provide technical and project-management support related to the proper operation and maintenance of the vessels’ machinery and equipment. Prepares and follows-up on the project’s budget.
  • Communicate with service providers and /or workshops if necessary, prepares comparison lists and submits to Management, as requested.
  • Advise on the selection and appointments of chief engineers and other senior engineers and assists the appraisal of the technical performance of all engineering personnel onboard the vessels.
  • Monitor the actual day-to-day operational performance and financial expenditure of the vessels against the accepted parameters, chartering commitments and forecasted budgets. Monitor and verifies vessel’s performance, supervises repairs and reports findings, following-up on the closure of defects.
  • Ensure that all vessels are maintained in a good and sound condition whilst all relevant classification, statutory and company requirements are met.
  • Communicate with the headquarters and provide reports and support to the technical function.
  • Participate in the Company’s Emergency Response Team.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
  • University degree in Engineering / Naval Architecture.
  • Post-graduate degree in Shipping Finance / Project Management / Risk Management will be an asset.
  • Experience onboard bulk carriers as Chief Engineer
  • Possess full understanding of PMS (Planned Maintenance System), Main Equipment requirement and latest Industry standard (Electronic Injection engines, Equipment LO Shore analysis requirement and management, Scrubber system and regulation, Ballast Water treatment and regulation etc)
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience as a Project Manager or Fleet Manager at the Technical department of a shipping company, preferably with bulkers.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Computer literate.
  • Excellent communication, organization and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to handle many tasks simultaneously within strict deadlines.
