Our reputable client, a well-established private company based in Malta, is seeking a dedicated Senior Payroll Executive to lead and manage payroll operations.  This is a hands-on role suited to an experienced payroll professional who can work independently, take full ownership of payroll operations, and serve as a go-to expert while working collaboratively with HR and Finance teams. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES
  • Full ownership of end-to-end payroll processing for all employees, ensuring payroll is processed accurately, compliantly, and within strict deadlines
  • Calculating and processing wages, overtime, allowances, bonuses, leave, and other pay-related elements
  • Acting as the organisation’s payroll specialist, offering guidance and advice to HR, Finance, managers, and employees.
  • Managing statutory deductions, benefits, and authorised payroll deductions
  • Overseeing payroll reporting, reconciliations, audits, and financial summaries
  • Handling complex payroll queries, escalations, and sensitive matters with professionalism and discretion
  • Managing payroll through Talexio, ensuring system integrity, accuracy of data, and continuous improvement of payroll processes
  • Ensuring full compliance with Maltese employment law, tax regulations, SSC contributions, and statutory obligations
  • Identifying risks, inefficiencies, or compliance gaps and proactively proposing solutions
  •  Assisting in mentoring, guiding, or supporting junior team members where applicable
  • Working closely with HR and Finance to align payroll with organisational policies and business objectives
CANDIDATE PROFILE
  • A Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (considered an asset)
  • Strong working knowledge and hands-on experience with Talexio is required and proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Previous significant experience in payroll within medium to large organizations
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail and accountability
  • Ability to work fully independently, manage priorities, and meet tight deadlines
  • Confident decision-maker with a problem-solving mindset
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain payroll matters clearly to employees and management
  • High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Valid permission to work in Malta (EU passport or work permit)
