On behalf of our client, a Corporate Service Provider in Malta, GRS Recruitment are seeking to recruit an experienced and driven Senior Tax Manager to join the Tax Team and contribute to the continued development of our tax practice. The successful candidate will oversee tax advisory and compliance engagements, manage key client relationships and support the technical and professional development of team members. The role also involves departmental planning and contributing to business development and commercial performance, working closely with senior management and external specialists where required.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead Maltese corporate and personal tax engagements, including preparing and reviewing tax opinions and advising on transactions, reorganisations and corporate and private client structures
  • Advise on the Maltese tax implications of cross-border transactions and international structures, coordinating with foreign tax advisers and specialist partners where required
  • Oversee the Tax Compliance Team, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of work, providing technical guidance and reviewing complex matters within the agreed approval framework
  • Manage key client relationships, address technical queries and escalated matters, and identify additional service requirements
  • Plan and allocate work across advisory and compliance engagements, monitoring deadlines, team capacity and resource requirements
  • Liaise with the Malta Tax and Customs Administration (MTCA) on technical correspondence, assessments, tax refunds and other client matters
  • Oversee tax administration and compliance requirements relating to trusts, foundations and similar structures, obtaining specialist input where necessary
  • Coordinate CRS and FATCA work, including classifications, due diligence, reporting obligations, MTCA submissions, SCQs and related queries, with specialist support where required;
  • Contribute to business development through prospect meetings, engagement scoping, fee proposals and relationships with referral partners and intermediaries
  • Identify opportunities to develop the tax practice and encourage cross-referrals between the Group’s service lines
  • Work with senior management on departmental budgets, forecasts, pricing and profitability, monitoring revenue, pipeline and utilisation
  • Identify recruitment and resourcing needs and contribute to the continued development of the department
  • Lead, mentor and develop team members through regular feedback, technical guidance and effective delegation
  • Improve departmental procedures and workflows to support quality, efficiency and consistent client service
  • Monitor relevant tax developments and communicate their implications to clients and team members
  • Represent at relevant conferences, international network meetings and industry events
  • Carry out other duties relevant to the role as may be reasonably required.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
  • A recognised accountancy qualification, such as ACCA or ACA, or qualification as a warranted lawyer with relevant experience in taxation
  • A minimum of five years’ relevant tax experience within a corporate services firm, accountancy practice or comparable professional services environment, including managerial or team supervision and review responsibilities
  • Strong knowledge of Maltese corporate taxation, with practical experience in tax advisory and compliance
  • Ability to manage client relationships and tax assignments independently, exercising sound professional judgement and recognising when specialist input is required
  • Effective leadership and delegation skills, with experience in reviewing work, providing technical guidance and developing team members
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to plan workloads, allocate resources and manage competing deadlines
  • Commercial awareness and a proactive approach to business development, fee proposals and the growth of the tax practice
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to explain complex tax matters clearly and build effective relationships with clients, colleagues and external advisers
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail and a commitment to delivering a high standard of client service
  • A high level of professionalism, integrity and discretion when handling confidential information
  • Exposure to cross-border tax matters and international client structures would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of trust and foundation taxation and CRS/FATCA requirements would be considered an asset
  • An MIT Diploma, ADIT or another recognised specialist tax qualification would be considered an asset
SALARY AND BENEFITS
  • €55,000 - €65,000 Gross Per Annum
  • Salary will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and skills. The advertised salary range is indicative, any offer will reflect the successful candidate’s suitability.
  • Full time, indefinite contract with 6 months’ probation
  • The business hours are normally Monday to Thursday from 8am until 5pm and Friday from 8am until 2pm. We offer an element of flexibility as well as a hybrid setup
