Our client, a well-established private logistics company based in Nicosia, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Accounting Manager to join their team. The Accounting Manager is responsible for handling all financial and accounting activities of the company, ensuring full compliance with Cyprus financial regulations, tax laws, and VAT requirements. The role requires strong knowledge of the freight forwarding industry, including cost structures, revenue recognition, and multi-currency transactions, while supporting management with accurate financial reporting and strategic insights.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Financial Management & Reporting
  • Oversee and manage all accounting operations, including Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), General Ledger (GL), fixed assets, and bank reconciliations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions and proper maintenance of accounting records in compliance with company policies and IFRS standards.
  • Lead the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
  • Manage month-end and year-end closing processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Analyze financial data, identify trends, variances, and discrepancies, and provide recommendations to management.
  • Prepare financial reports, dashboards, and analysis to support strategic business decisions.
Taxation & Compliance (Cyprus Focus)
  • Ensure full compliance with Cyprus tax laws, statutory regulations, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Oversee the accurate preparation and timely submission of VAT returns, corporate tax filings, and other statutory declarations.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, tax consultants, banks, and regulatory authorities.
  • Ensure compliance with Social Insurance and other local statutory obligations.
  • Monitor updates in tax legislation, accounting standards, and financial regulations, ensuring timely implementation of required changes.
Freight Forwarding Accounting Management
  • Oversee all accounting activities related to freight forwarding operations, including:
              o Freight revenues (air, sea, and land freight)
              o Cost of sales (shipping lines, agents, carriers, port charges, customs duties, and related operational expenses)
              o Shipment accruals, provisions, and cost allocations
  • Review reconciliations with overseas agents, suppliers, shipping partners, and intercompany accounts.
  • Manage multi-currency transactions, foreign exchange exposures, and related accounting treatments.
  • Provide profitability analysis by shipment, customer, trade lane, or business segment to support operational and commercial decisions.
Cash Flow, Working Capital & Treasury Management
  • Manage and monitor company cash flow, liquidity planning, and working capital requirements.
  • Oversee receivables management and collection strategies to ensure timely customer payments and minimize overdue balances.
  • Review aging reports, customer credit exposure, and recommend actions for outstanding accounts.
  • Approve supplier payments and ensure proper cash planning for settlement of financial obligations.
  • Coordinate with management on funding requirements, banking facilities, and treasury matters.
Audit, Controls & Risk Management
  • Lead annual external audits and coordinate internal audit activities.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial governance policies.
  • Ensure financial records, documentation, and audit trails are properly maintained and readily available for review.
  • Identify financial risks and recommend process improvements to strengthen controls and operational efficiency.
Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead, manage, and develop the accounting team to ensure efficient daily operations and high performance.
  • Allocate responsibilities, monitor deliverables, and ensure deadlines are consistently met.
  • Review team output for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal standards.
  • Provide coaching, training, and performance feedback to support employee growth and capability development.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the finance function.
Business Support & Strategic Contribution
  • Support senior management with budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and business analysis.
  • Contribute to financial strategy discussions and provide recommendations to improve profitability, efficiency, and cost control.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives, system enhancements, and finance transformation projects.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform any other finance, accounting, or business-related duties as assigned by the General Manager or senior leadership.

CANDIDATE PROFILE
  • Bachelor Degree in Business Finace and Accounting , IFRS and other international certificates are a plus
  • Strong knowledge of Cyprus tax laws, VAT regulations, and compliance requirements
  • 10-15 years of experience

SALARY AND BENEFITS
  • €32,500 - €39,000 Gross Per Annum
  • Salary will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and skills. The advertised salary range is indicative, any offer will reflect the successful candidate’s suitability.
