Our reputable banking client in Malta is seeking a dedicated and experienced Deputy Manager Operational Risk. The role is envisaged to start at Deputy Manager level, with focus primarily on Operational Risk on an Enterprise-wide basis, Climate & Environmental Risk (among other ESG matters) and being the Business Continuity Co-Ordinator of the Bank. The core element of the job is Operational Risk Management; with the additions of C&E Risk and BCP Co-Ordination to enhance the role. The ideal candidate must have a background in
Operations, Risk or Internal Audit within financial services institutions. The role is technical and requires attention to detail and an understanding of internal controls.The role offers a wide exposure to many areas of the Bank, leading to a substantial growth in one’s knowledge base. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead system implementation projects related to the Risk Function with minimal supervision (timesheets program; ERM software for risk registers);
- Extensive testing of controls across the Bank’s head office and the Branch in Ireland
- Recommend enhancements to controls
- Ensure that departmental risk registers are updated by the owners thereof;
- Work related to ESG analysis, sourcing and reporting of metrics, understanding and working in the work streams relevant to Climate & Environmental Risk management
- Handle and log operational risk reports
- Attend departmental meetings and review the meeting minutes
- Represent the Risk Function in risk related discussions
- Update documents related to the Risk Function, such as the Op Risk Policy, Risk Management Framework, Anti-Fraud Policy, and other documents
- Review the Business Risk Assessment of the Bank, (a document required by the FIAU)
- Draft Product Risk Assessments or Business Line Risk Assessments from an Operational Risk perspective
- Assume the role and the full responsibility of Business Continuity Co-Ordinator of the Bank (this role requires direct liaison with the Managing Director, who is responsible for the Bank’s crisis-management)
- Any other tasks as may be assigned by the Head and which are in line with the Employee’s expertise
CANDIDATE PROFILE
- Bachelor’s degree in Banking and Finance or Accountancy
- Master Degree in Risk, or Finance or the FRM qualification from GARP are desirable
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in Risk, Operations, or Internal Audit
- Relevant experience in a bank, financial institution or investment services firm is considered an asset
- Experience in a Big 4 firm, working in Risk, Regulatory or Advisory teams (including IT Advisory), is also considered an asset
- Candidates with Internal Audit background are also welcome
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office suite programs, especially Excel is a must
- Knowledge of ESG concepts

- The Bank has a complete C&E RM Framework. Person hired is expected to be or to become a subject matter expert in this area
- Project management skills
- Ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously and co-ordinating with staff from across an organisation, in a fast-paced environment

- Excellent command of English, both oral and written
- Understanding of internal controls
- Attention to detail
SALARY AND BENEFITS
- €45,000 - €60,000 Gross Per Annum
