On behalf of our client, a highly respected and specialist insurance brokerage with a strong footprint in the maritime and shipping sectors, GRS Recruitment is seeking to recruit a Head of Underwriting – Brokering Team to join their growing team in Limassol. This is a unique leadership opportunity for an experienced administrative and operational professional with a legal, insurance, or commercial background, looking to play a pivotal role in shaping and managing the underwriting function of a niche broking business. Reporting directly to senior management, the successful candidate will take on overall responsibility for leading the underwriting support function within the brokering team. The role combines administrative leadership, process ownership, and a strong commercial focus, making it ideal for a candidate with a solid background in insurance or legal administration, team management, and client-facing service delivery. This is a key strategic role in a company that values professionalism, precision, and service excellence.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead and manage the daily operations of the underwriting administrative team, ensuring all documentation and procedures meet company and regulatory standards.

Oversee the preparation, quality control, and filing of insurance documentation and contracts in line with internal policies.

Maintain and optimise workflows across the underwriting cycle — from pre-placement documentation to post-bind follow-up and renewals.

Liaise with brokers, clients, and underwriters to ensure smooth coordination and delivery of client insurance solutions.

Provide hands-on guidance and support across the administrative, compliance, and operational aspects of underwriting.

Handle complex client requirements and act as a key escalation point for underwriting-related matters.

Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including claims and compliance teams, to ensure alignment and process consistency.

Contribute to the strategic development of the team, including systems improvements, best practices, and efficiency measures.

Coach, mentor, and develop junior staff within the team, fostering a high-performing and client-focused culture.

Ensure timely and accurate business correspondence and uphold professional standards in all client and partner interactions.

Play an active role in developing internal policy, identifying risk exposure, and contributing to loss prevention activities.

Support business development initiatives and contribute to the overall commercial performance of the department.
CANDIDATE PROFILE

University degree in Law, Insurance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.

A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a legal, broking, or insurance administration setting, ideally with team management responsibilities.

Proven track record of managing documentation-heavy, regulated business environments.

Strong understanding of the underwriting process within the broking/insurance landscape.

Excellent command of written and spoken English; additional languages will be considered an advantage.

High attention to detail and ability to maintain quality under pressure.

Commercially astute with excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

Able to motivate and lead a team while maintaining a hands-on approach.

Familiarity with maritime or shipping insurance will be considered a strong asset.
