GRS Recruitment is pleased to present an exciting opportunity for a Junior Legal Counsel based in Malta, within a forward-thinking gaming company. The Junior Legal Counsel shall be directly answerable in the performance of his/her duties and conduct to the Authority’s General Counsel and to the Manager – Legal and Enforcement and shall observe and comply with all reasonable, lawful, and proper guidelines and directions.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • To represent the Authority in its enforcement functions, including the drafting and issuing of enforcement measures on behalf of the MGA;
  • To provide day-to-day support to the Manager – Legal and Enforcement and contribute to the ongoing development of both the operational and strategic aspects of the Department;
  • To provide regular status updates pertaining to his/her remit to the Department’s senior management, as well as provide feedback and updates with regards to action taken to the Authority’s internal committees; 
  • To liaise with various regulatory authorities in Malta and abroad;
  • To represent the MGA in any court cases as required and to assist the police force in criminal cases which are gaming related;
  • To support senior management in providing legal advice to the Chairperson, Board of Governors, Chief Executive Officer and the MGA in general;
  • To conduct and plan legal research on multi-disciplined aspects of law;
  • To tender advice with respect to the MGA’s processes in the light of better regulation and enforcement policies;
  • To represent the MGA in local and international fora including conferences, exposition centres as well as gaming related meetings;
  • To keep abreast with all local and international developments conducive to the MGA’s regulatory and enforcement functions;
  • To ensure that the objectives of the Function are constantly met and that professional standards are maintained at all times; and
  • To carry out such other duties and functions as may be assigned by the Department’s senior management or by the MGA
CANDIDATE PROFILE
  • In possession of a law degree. A valid warrant to practice as an advocate in the courts of Malta and Gozo shall be considered an asset;
  • Having previously worked or trained in other legal or enforcement related roles;
  • Knowledge of the laws and regulations governing gaming in Malta shall be considered an asset;
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced and changing environment;
  • Thinks and acts strategically
  • Takes ownership of work;
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
