On behalf of our client, an Insurance Firm based in Malta, GRS Recruitment are seeking a Motor Claims Manager. The ideal candidate will lead the Motor Claims team and drive the department's technical and operational performance. This senior leadership role is responsible for ensuring high-quality claims handling, cost efficiency, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Handle complex motor claims, including bodily injury, high-value damages and liability disputes.
- Maintain and update BI claim resister, prepare monthly BI updates and produce Large Loss Reports for executive review.
- Apply BI calculation formulas and jurisprudence (e.g., Butler vs Heard) using internal BI templates.
- Liaise with external lawyers to discuss BI strategies and support early settlement to control legal costs.
- Represent the company in court for motor-related matters in Maltese and English.
- Manage all legal correspondence, briefs and case files for motor-related disputes
- Coordinate case discussions with lawyers and organise internal legal training sessions to enhance team awareness and capability.
- Lead coordination of all survey bookings, ensuring SLA adherence (24–48 hours).
- Evaluate survey and repair reports to validate damage relevance, confirm repair methodology and adjust reserves accordingly.
- Communicate with surveyors on complex technical findings and provide direction including BER (Beyond Economic Repair) assessments.
- Identify and pursue recovery opportunities through technical assessment.
- Negotiate rates and technical decisions with repairers, surveyors and vendors to minimise cost while maintaining quality.
- Enforce technical controls (e.g., dismantling requests, temporary repair strategies) to reduce delays and loss-of-use exposure.
- Monitor vendor performance through SLA reviews, audits and KPI reporting.
- Lead improvement initiatives across the repairer network.
- Conduct periodic technical file reviews to ensure reserve accuracy, strong liability decisions, and identification of leakage.
- Drive targeted quality improvements and ensure compliance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Summarise financial impacts, including reserve releases and recovery gains.
- Support finance and digital teams with payment testing, approvals and AIS data validation.
- Monitor AIS workflows, raise system tickets and ensure quick resolution to avoid payment disruptions.
- Approve daily payments and ensure timely processing and data accuracy.
- Act as key liaison with Underwriting, Digital, Finance, Customer Service, and AIS teams.
- Provide expert technical guidance to claims handlers and assist with new joiner onboarding.
- Represent the organisation in the Insurance Association of Malta and other relevant industry forums.
- Support claims operations in other European jurisdictions, including Gibraltar, on an ad hoc basis as required to meet business and operational needs.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
- 7–10 years’ senior-level experience in motor claims, including team leadership, operational oversight, managing complex liability and bodily injury cases, with responsibility for team leadership and oversight of claims operations.
- Proven management or supervisory experience, including leading technical claims teams, setting performance standards and mentoring staff.
- ACII qualified or currently working towards ACII qualification. Candidates should ideally hold a degree in Business, Insurance, Banking & Finance, Risk Management, or a related field (MQF Level 6). Professional insurance qualifications, such as Cert CII, will be considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle repair processes, motor liability principles, BI calculations and VAT procedures.
- Familiarity with Maltese and international insurance regulations.
- Full fluency in Maltese and English, with excellent communication, negotiation and court representation skills.
- Proficiency in claims systems, damage assessment /estimating tools, and MS Office applications.
- Ability to perform reporting, data analysis using tools such as Power BI, Excel analytics, or similar platforms.
- Experience in cost control, budget monitoring and claims expenditure management.
- Experience in vendor management, including negotiation and oversight of repairers, surveyors, and service providers.
- Prior experience within the local insurance industry or automotive repair sector.
- In-depth knowledge of motor liability principles, bodily injury calculations, VAT procedures, and vehicle repair processes. Familiarity with Maltese and international insurance regulations is essential.
- Full fluency in Maltese and English, excellent communication and negotiation abilities, and proficiency in claims systems, estimating tools, MS Office, and analytics platforms (e.g., Power BI).
- Proven experience in cost control, vendor management, and budget monitoring within the local insurance or automotive sector.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
- €48,000 - €50,000 Gross Per Annum.
