GRS Recruitment is partnering with a reputable IT company based in Malta to find a dedicated Network and Security Specialist / Engineer. We are looking for a highly experienced networking professional who can combine strong technical expertise with a solid understanding of customer business requirements. This role goes beyond network administration and ticket handling, The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in network engineering and security protocols, bringing valuable expertise to this forward-thinking organisation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Network Design, Deployment & Management

Design, implement, and maintain secure and scalable network infrastructures including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.

Configure and manage Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFW) and VPN solutions (site-to-site and remote access) in line with best security practices.

Administer and optimize LAN/WAN environments, VLANs, and routing protocols to ensure availability and performance.
-
Implement and maintain network segmentation and access control policies.
Security and Monitoring
-
Monitor and analyse network traffic and logs to detect anomalies, intrusions, or performance issues. Conduct regular firewall rule audits and optimize configurations for performance and compliance.

Analyse network capacity and availability to recommend enhancements to improve system reliability and performance.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
-
Proactively monitor network health using industry tools.

Engage in proactive and reactive troubleshooting, including root cause analysis (RCA) and fault diagnosis, to resolve complex network issues.

Manage device access and security settings to prevent unauthorized access and ensure data integrity.

Perform preventive maintenance and apply firmware updates or patches to network and security appliances.
Client Support and Issue Resolution

Provide technical support and resolve issues for clients remotely or onsite, ensuring minimal downtime and adherence to Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Use industry-standard tools such as Raiseaticket helpdesk to manage support tickets and ensure effective issue tracking and resolution.

Maintain detailed documentation for configurations, network diagrams, and change management logs.

Participate in change management reviews to ensure stability and security during deployments.
Project and Design Collaboration

Lead and collaborate with project teams and stakeholders to design and deliver network and security solutions that meet operational and compliance requirements.

Participate in technology assessments and recommend improvements aligned with best practices.
Training and Professional Development

Continually enhance technical skills through industry-relevant training and certification programs.

Research and integrate new technologies into network practices, contributing to innovation and continuous improvement initiatives.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
- Seniority Level : Senior or Expert level.
- Years of Experience : 7 + years
Network & Security Operations (2–3 Years Experience)

Actively manage day-to-day network and security tasks, leveraging 2–3 years of hands-on experience in a networking or security-focused role.

Support incident response, troubleshoot user issues, and ensure stable and secure network operations.
Clear & Effective Communication
-
Communicate technical findings, incident updates, and configuration changes clearly and concisely in written and spoken English.

Prepare technical documentation, change reports, risk assessments, and operational procedures as required.
Cisco Network Administration
-
Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Cisco routing, switching, and wireless equipment in production environments.

Perform firmware upgrades, adjust network configurations, and validate network performance.
-
Apply strong knowledge of TCP/IP, routing protocols, VLANs, STP, WLAN, and related networking technologies during operations and troubleshooting.
Next-Generation Firewall Deployment & Management

Deploy, configure, and optimize NGFW solutions such as Palo Alto, Fortinet, or Cisco ASA/Firepower.

Create and maintain security policies, NAT rules, IPS/IDS configurations, and application-layer controls.

Implement and manage VPN technologies (IPsec, SSL VPN), including site-to-site and remote-access setups.
Network Design & Implementation
-
Contribute to the design and deployment of secure, scalable network infrastructures from the ground up.

Apply industry best practices when building or expanding networks, including segmentation, redundancy, and security hardening.
Packet Capture & Traffic Analysis
-
Perform packet captures using tools such as Wireshark to diagnose performance issues, network anomalies, and potential security threats.

Analyse traffic patterns to identify misconfigurations, bottlenecks, and malicious behavior.
Performance & Capacity Optimization
-
Monitor network capacity, availability, and performance metrics to identify areas for improvement.
-
Recommend and implement enhancements such as link upgrades, QoS adjustments, or architectural changes.
Preferred:
-
Relevant certifications such as CCNA, Fortinet NSE, Palo Alto PCNSA/PCNSE, CEH, or CompTIA Security+. Brand specific certifications will be considered an asset.

Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Networking, or related field.

Experience with SIEM platforms, IDS/IPS, or cloud networking (Azure/AWS) is considered an asset.

Valid Driving B License.
SALARY AND BENEFITS

€45,000 - €50,000 Gross Per Annum
