An international telecommunications provider is looking for an experienced System Engineer to join their team in Malta. You will build, maintain, and troubleshoot their rapidly expanding infrastructure. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Managing and monitoring systems, both software and hardware.

Configure and manage network equipment including IPSEC tunnels.

Ensure the highest levels of system availability.
-
Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks.
-
Work with the Quality Assurance and Development teams on bugs and continuous optimisation of systems.
-
Maintain constant backups of mission-critical systems.
-
Provide second-level support to our Customer Service team and be part of a periodic “on-call” roster for out of office hours support.

Liaise with service providers and external partners for problems related to hardware.
-
24x7 proactive monitoring and support of the live and pre-production environments.
-
Any other tasks or projects assigned as required from time to time.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
-
A degree in Computer Science.
-
Fluent in Maltese!
-
Working experience with UNIX/LINUX systems.
-
Experience working with Apache, Nginx, HAProxy and RabbitMQ.
-
Experience with virtualisation and containerization including VMWare, Proxmox and Docker.
-
Experience with monitoring systems such as Zabbix and Graphana.
-
Experience administering, tuning, installing and backing up/restoring MySQL/Percona databases.
-
Experience writing Bash or Python scripts.
-
Solid networking experience preferably with Juniper and Cisco, including configuration of firewalls, routers, switches in high availability (HA) environments and VPNs.

Ability to work within a team as well as on own initiative.

Ability to research new and current technologies.
-
Experience or knowledge working with SMPP and/or SS7.
