On behalf of our client, a prominent Oil & Gas company based in Larnaca, GRS Recruitment are seeking a Senior Risk Officer. The Senior Risk Officer will be responsible for supporting department managers in identifying, assessing, and designing processes and controls to mitigate regulatory, operational, financial, and reputational risks across the organisation. The role combines risk management and compliance oversight, supporting the implementation of effective governance frameworks and ensuring alignment with applicable EU regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will have, or be able to quickly develop, strong knowledge of relevant EU compliance frameworks including AML, competition law, data protection, EU climate and energy legislation, trade sanctions and will support the business in monitoring legislative developments and implementing effective risk and compliance practices. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Define and document risk and compliance management principles, frameworks, policies, and risk appetite in line with the Group Risk Management Policy.
  • Promote and embed a culture of risk awareness and compliance across the entity.
  • Assist senior management in the effective implementation of the risk and compliance strategy through:
  • Developing mechanisms to ensure that material risk and compliance exposures are identified, assessed, documented, monitored, managed, and where possible mitigated in an effective and timely manner.
  • Timely identification and escalation of breaches in risk limits, compliance obligations, and material risk exposures in line with established escalation mechanisms.
  • Ensure granular processes and controls properly correspond to broader risk and compliance strategy and objectives and monitor their effectiveness and implementation.
  • Advise, support, and develop recommendations or proposals regarding the entity’s current and future risk appetite.
  • Close cooperation with the Compliance department to continually enhance processes and controls for the implementation and continuous improvement of AML, KYC, sanctions screening, and counterparty due diligence procedures.
  • Close cooperation with the regulations department to monitor developments in EU climate and energy legislation, including Fit for 55, Renewable Energy Directive (II/III), FuelEU Maritime, and EU ETS, as well as national implementations such as Germany’s BEHG (Fuel Emissions Trading Act), to assess impact and work with department managers to define and implement appropriate strategies.
  • Close cooperation with the Legal department to monitor and assess the impact of potential legislative and regulatory changes affecting the entity.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Law, Risk Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 5–7+ years of experience in risk management and/or compliance.
  •  Strong knowledge of EU regulatory and compliance frameworks.
  • Excellent communication skills in English; German advantageous.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reporting abilities.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders at multiple levels.
  • High ethical standards, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage sensitive information.
