A boutique corporate and fiduciary services firm in Valletta is looking for a Head of Finance to take full ownership of its finance function. Reporting directly to the directors, this is the most senior finance role in the business — leading a team of six and shaping financial strategy as the firm continues to grow. It's a strong fit for someone from a Big 4 or practice background looking for a senior, hands-on role in a more relaxed, trust-based environment. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead a finance team of six, overseeing accounting, payroll, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
- Develop and implement financial strategies, policies, and controls to support business growth.
- Prepare and present financial statements, management reports, and KPIs to the directors.
- Ensure full compliance with Maltese regulatory requirements, including MFSA and tax authorities, and standards such as IFRS/GAPSME.
- Manage relationships with external auditors, banks, and regulatory bodies.
- Provide strategic financial advice on business planning, investments, pricing, and cost optimisation.
- Oversee tax planning in line with Maltese corporate tax frameworks.
- Support due diligence, M&A, and other strategic initiatives.
- Drive process improvements and digital transformation across financial operations.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
- Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, CPA, or equivalent).
- 8–10 years of progressive finance experience, including 3–5 years in a senior leadership role (Financial Controller, Head of Finance, or Finance Director).
- Minimum 4 years' experience in the Maltese market, ideally 5+.
- Strong knowledge of Maltese financial regulations, tax legislation, and compliance requirements.
- Proven ability in financial leadership, team management, and strategic planning.
- Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel/Google Sheets.
- Fluency in English.
- Big 4 or professional services background is an advantage.
- Experience in corporate services, fiduciary, or legal firms is considered a plus.
- A postgraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, or an MBA would be an advantage.
- Experience with Xero and Sage.
- Knowledge of Italian or other languages is a plus.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
- €75,000 – €100,000 Gross Per Annum
- Salary will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and skills. The advertised salary range is indicative, any offer will reflect the successful candidate’s suitability.
