A medium sized Accounting & Corporate Advisory firm is looking for a Head of Legal to join their team in Malta. You will be required to offer proactive advice to the board of directors regarding emerging issues, group structure and new legislation that may impact the organisation. The ideal candidate would be a Warrant Holder to exercise the legal profession in Malta and have at least 4 years’ experience within the financial services and be able to work on their own initiative and under pressure. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct necessary due diligence and reporting requirements to local regulatory authorities.
  • Oversee the services provided by the legal team whilst providing mentorship and support
  • Give advice on contract status and business terms of various agreements
  • Anticipate, advise and plan all legal risks, and developing strategies to mitigate those risks for the Group
  • Research unique legal issues impacting the organisation by identifying applicable statutes, judicial decisions, laws and codes and developing solutions to complex legal questions
  • Keep abreast of legislative changes that may affect the company
  • Perform pre-litigation work to minimize risks and maximize legal rights
  • Work with relevant stakeholders across the business to ensure that the necessary due diligence and reporting requirements to local regulatory authorities are adhered to and met.
  • Advise the leadership team on legal matters critical to the growth of the business
  • Arrange and supervise external lawyers who provide legal advice or representation in areas of special expertise or in litigation
  • Monitor regulatory and business landscape to provide strategic legal advice to guide the organisation on key policy, strategy, corporate risk and major projects.
  • Prepare legal documentation, contracts and agreements (and precedents) as required.
  • Own the overall budget requirements for legal, regulatory and compliance areas of the business.
  • Translate strategic decisions and regulatory obligations into projects, actions and operational processes across the business and advising on their implementation.
  • Establish control systems and workflows for stakeholders throughout the business to comply with compliance requirements.
  • Oversee and manage reports submitted to the regulatory authorities.
  • Manage and monitor the application process of new Gaming Licenses, Ship registration & aircraft registration.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
  • The ideal candidate would be expected to coordinate aspects of AML Risk and Compliance with the existing MLRO and Compliance Officer.
  • Warrant Holder to exercise the legal profession in Malta
  • At least 4 years experience within the financial services
  • Able to work on their own initiative and under pressure.
  • Experience within a similar role
  • A degree in Law with specific knowledge of company structures and regulatory laws and compliance
  • Knowledge and experience working with different markets
