We are proud to represent a leading banking institution in Malta that is seeking a dedicated Senior Investment Analyst to join their dynamic team. The Senior Market Analyst will be mainly focused on duties relating to Macro-economic data, Portfolio Management and Capital Market analysis. The main objective is to support the Bank’s Investment Committee, the Investment Advisors and Portfolio Managers within the Private Banking department, and the Bank’s customers with the necessary information, analysis and reports in relation to the in-house bespoke investment strategies and specific investment positions we recommend and allocate to the Bank’s customers.  Moreover, she/he will aim to actively achieve risk-adjusted returns which exceed the market returns via multi-asset investment strategies which are structured to provide solutions at various points across the risk spectrum.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide and assist the Bank in reaching its targets by carrying out:
    • Reviews of the recommend portfolios in terms of performance, risk adjusted returns, asset allocation, and adherence to the Bank’s investment parameters.
    • Analysis on economic movements, industry developments and investment opportunities.
    • Valuation models, forecast returns and assess risk metrics. Drafting various reports and presentations for the Bank’s Investment Committee, and possibly the Bank’s clients.
    • Risk identification, assessment and mitigation with the portfolio, including credit risk, volatility and compliance with regulations.
    • Data collection from various sources related to the financial markets and portfolios performance, including financials, product documentation and ESG data.
    • Generate regular and ad-hoc reports and dashboards on the Strategic portfolio performance and any Tactical investment allocations.
    • Document and present recommendations to the Bank’s Investment Committee on asset and currency allocations which may possibly lead to tactical changes with a view of reducing risk and/or enhancing returns.
    • Document and present the analysis of existing and new investment products which may lead to new investments being included or existing investments being removed from the Bank’s whitelist.
    • Follow up with fund managers of existing or potential products via virtual or physical meetings with the objective of closely monitoring the members and potential members of the Bank’s whitelist.
    • Consistently monitor the performance of other direct line items (such as bonds, equities and commodities) which may be listed in the Bank’s whitelist. 
    • Working out the Performance Contribution and Performance Attribution of each investment solution and presenting these results on a monthly basis to the Investment Committee.
    • Assist in the management/ enhancement / growth and retention of existing clients/accounts in order to maximise private banking services offered by the bank including, the taking of deposits, card services, foreign exchange, brokerage, and advisory services;
  • Assist the Bank in the execution of its growth strategy through active participation in departmental and bank meetings;
  • Remain abreast of the capital markets through research, continuous study programs, the attendance to conferences and seminars on investments and current market activities;
  • Assist in maintaining regulatory standards;
  • Develop and complete projects that will assist the team in expanding the client base and improving existing processes internally, across departments and externally in respect to clients;
  • Liaise across departments and regulatory functions within the bank with a view to assisting in the proper and timely prosecution of business flows and transactions including but not exclusively to the Trade and Settlement desks and the Risk Management department;
  • Assist in the redaction and maintenance of processes and procedures;
  • Attend internal and external meetings with clients and also on behalf of the Bank.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
  • Necessary qualifications required by the MFSA to be approved as a Portfolio Manager;
  • CFA designation or equivalent is considered an asset;
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in market analysis;
  • Excellent IT knowledge;
  • Proactive, focused and able to plan and meet deadlines;
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
