GRS Recruitment is working with an established international organisation that is expanding its operations into Cyprus and is seeking an experienced Shipping and Chartering Manager to join its newly established office in Larnaca.
This represents an exciting opportunity to become one of the key initial hires within the Cyprus operation and play an integral role in developing the company's shipping and chartering activities from Cyprus.
The successful candidate will have a strong and demonstrable background within dry bulk, LPG, petrochemical and/or crude oil shipping, together with an established international network of shipowners, charterers, brokers, agents and other industry contacts.
This is a commercially focused position requiring someone who understands the international shipping markets, can independently manage chartering activities and vessel fixtures, and brings with them the relationships and market knowledge required to support the continued growth of the business.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage end-to-end chartering activities across dry bulk, LPG, petrochemical and crude oil vessels.
- Source suitable vessels and tonnage in line with cargo requirements, trading schedules and commercial objectives.
- Negotiate charter party terms, freight rates and other commercial conditions with shipowners, charterers and brokers.
- Manage vessel fixtures from initial enquiry and negotiation through to completion and post-fixture follow-up.
- Maintain regular communication with shipowners, brokers, charterers, agents, terminals and other shipping partners.
- Utilise an established international shipping network to identify vessel availability, market opportunities and competitive freight solutions.
- Monitor international freight markets, vessel availability, rates and wider shipping trends, providing relevant market intelligence to senior management.
- Work closely with the commercial and trading teams to ensure shipping strategies support underlying commodity transactions.
- Coordinate vessel nominations, loading and discharge schedules and other operational requirements.
- Review and negotiate Charter Parties and associated shipping documentation.
- Oversee voyage execution and proactively manage any operational or commercial issues arising during the shipment.
- Monitor laytime, demurrage, dispatch and other charter party obligations.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with shipowners, operators, brokers, port agents and other key stakeholders.
- Ensure shipping activities comply with relevant international regulations, contractual requirements and internal procedures.
- Support the development of the company's shipping and chartering function in Cyprus as the local operation grows.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
- Proven professional experience within shipping and chartering, with a career specifically centred around international vessel chartering rather than general freight forwarding or logistics.
- Strong hands-on experience within dry bulk vessels and/or LPG, petrochemical and crude oil vessels.
- An established and active international network of shipowners, charterers, brokers, operators and shipping contacts is essential.
- Strong understanding of international freight and chartering markets.
- Demonstrable experience negotiating vessel fixtures, freight rates and Charter Party terms.
- Sound knowledge of voyage calculations, laytime, demurrage and associated commercial shipping considerations.
- Previous experience within commodities, energy, oil & gas, petrochemicals, fertilizers or related trading environments would be highly advantageous.
- Strong commercial and negotiation skills with the confidence to independently manage relationships with senior industry counterparts.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Highly organised, commercially astute and able to operate effectively in a fast-moving international trading environment.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of the shipping and chartering function.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English; additional languages will be considered an advantage.
- Willingness to be based in Larnaca, Cyprus.
