DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the IT & Ship Management Department, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of IT infrastructure and communication systems across the fleet. The role combines remote support from the shore-based office with onboard visits during port calls, dry-dock periods, vessel takeovers, and emergency situations. Flexibility to travel at short notice is essential.
Vessel IT Infrastructure

Install, configure, maintain, and upgrade onboard IT infrastructure including servers, workstations, printers, network switches, firewalls, and peripheral devices.

Deploy, support, and maintain both company-specific applications and industry-standard software across the fleet.
Network & Communications
-
Manage and troubleshoot satellite communication systems including Starlink, VSAT, FleetBroadband (FBB), and Iridium.

Maintain onboard Wi-Fi and Local Area Networks (LAN), ensuring reliable connectivity for vessel operations and crew welfare.
Cybersecurity & System Integrity

Implement and maintain cybersecurity best practices across fleet systems.

Monitor endpoint protection, software updates, and system health.

Ensure successful execution and verification of daily and weekly automated data backups and recovery procedures.
Technical Support & User Training

Deliver responsive remote IT support to vessel crews, diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and network issues.

Provide training and guidance to onboard personnel on IT systems, company policies, and new technologies.
Asset & Hardware Management
Collaboration & Fleet Support

Work closely with Technical Superintendents and shore-based IT teams to plan system upgrades and maintain fleet-wide IT standards.

Produce reports on system performance and proactively identify opportunities for improvement.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education
-
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Marine Electronics, or a related discipline.
Experience
-
1–3 years' experience in an IT support or infrastructure role, ideally within the maritime, shipping, offshore, or marine sectors.
Technical Expertise
-
You'll bring strong technical knowledge across a broad range of IT disciplines, including:

Windows Server environments and Active Directory.

Windows 11 administration (thin and fat clients).

TCP/IP networking, routing, switching, and network security.
-
Hyper-V deployment, configuration, and maintenance.

Virtual Machine (VM) and VHDX management.

PC, server, and peripheral hardware troubleshooting.

Firewall configuration, endpoint security, backup, and disaster recovery.
-
Previous exposure to VSAT or maritime communications is considered a strong advantage.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

€42,000 - €50,000 Gross Per Annum
