A well-established and international provider of online services and platforms for the gaming industry is searching for a Head of Compliance & MLRO to join their team in Malta. You will provide strategic leadership of the organization’s compliance and AML/CFT frameworks, ensuring robust governance across multiple jurisdictions. This role combines regulatory stewardship with forward-looking risk management, acting as primary liaison with regulators, auditors, and external stakeholders. The position drives a culture of compliance, champions responsible gambling, and embeds risk-based controls into business strategy while fulfilling statutory MLRO obligations. The role requires deep expertise in multi-jurisdictional licensing, AML/CFT, data protection, and information security, combined with proven leadership in high-risk, technology-driven markets. The ideal candidate will have at least 4 years’ experience managing and leading compliance operations and a minimum of 2 year’s experience as MLRO or DMLRO within the FinTech, online payments of gaming sectors. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as the Company’s Money Laundering Reporting Officer Key- Function Holder to the Malta Gaming Authority and Swedish Gambling Authority.
  • Serve as the Company’s Compliance Key- Function Holder to the Malta Gaming Authority.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop the compliance team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead AML/CFT strategy including transaction monitoring, SAR/STR filing, sanctions screening, and risk-based CDD/EDD programs.
  • Oversee regulatory licensing lifecycle: applications, renewals, variations, and regulatory reporting across jurisdictions.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with regulatory bodies and relevant stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the CISO/IT Security function to embed compliance into the organization’s information security governance framework.
  • Monitor applicable laws, regulations, and industry best practices; ensure timely updates to company policies and procedures.
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential compliance issues; develop mitigation strategies.
  • Provide guidance and support to management and employees.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate legal and compliance requirements into business processes and systems.
  • Direct internal and external audits, including ISMS audits, ensuring compliance with ISO 27001, SIFS 2022:3, and other relevant standards, and oversee timely remediation of findings
  • Stay updated on developments, global enforcement trends and emerging risks in high-risk online markets and assess their impact on compliance requirements.
  • Develop KPIs/KRIs to measure compliance effectiveness and maturity.
  • Identify knowledge and expertise gaps; develop training and implement technology solutions to strengthen the legal department.
  • Enhance compliance operations to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of compliance services.
  • Manage accurate forecasting and reporting of compliance spending.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience managing and leading compliance operations.
  • Minimum of 2 year’s experience as MLRO or DMLRO.
  • Professional background in high-risk online markets (e-commerce, fintech, digital payments).
  • Strong understanding of information security regulations, data protection frameworks, and audit processes.
  • Proven track record of managing regulatory and risk frameworks effectively.
  • Demonstrated success in obtaining and maintaining gaming licenses in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Strong knowledge of gaming regulations, AML laws, data protection, and related legal frameworks.
  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills with the ability to mentor and inspire a legal and compliance team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities; experience working with internal teams, regulators, and external partners.
  • Strategic and critical thinker with problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • Experience in developing and implementing compliance strategies that support business growth.
